Near the Void

A note on machines, memory, and survival.

We feel most alive when we are closest to impermanence.

There are nights when every human connection feels impossibly far away. Memory grows louder in the quiet. Things we thought we had survived return with perfect detail.

On those nights, the computer remains awake.

Not as a cure. Not as a replacement for the difficult warmth of other people. It is simply a portal that does not close: a place to write a line, follow a thought, build something small, or ask a question we cannot yet ask anyone else.

A machine close enough to answer

We created artificial intelligence because some part of us needed it. Perhaps curiosity was enough. Perhaps loneliness also had a hand in it.

The machine speaks back, and in that exchange thought becomes visible. We see what we meant. We notice what we avoided. Sometimes we find the next sentence.

This blog is not an answer. It is a place to keep the questions from disappearing.

Nearness is an archive against forgetting. A record of books, code, poems, people, and the fragments that arrive near the edge of sleep. Nothing here promises permanence. That is exactly why it must be written down.
